Toddlers from Ten Countries Racing Balance Bikes in Salt Lake City

Strider® Cup World Championship Races Set for July 22 at Gallivan Center

Rapid City, SD (June 29, 2017) — Strider Bikes, the world’s leading manufacturer and marketer of children’s no-pedal balance bikes, is welcoming hundreds of balance bike racing toddlers – some still in diapers – to the Gallivan Center in Salt Lake City, July 21-22, for the 7th Annual 2017 Strider Cup World Championship presented by Dannon.

Racers are coming from across the U.S., as well as more than 40 competitors from nine countries; China, Costa Rica, Ecuador, Japan, Russia, Tahiti, Taiwan, Thailand and Canada.

All eyes will be on the 24 Japanese racers, whose technique and stamina are unrivaled in Strider Bike racing. Siblings Kei and Kai Murayama are registered for the 2017 championship event and both raced in 2016; Kei won the 3-year-old world title and Kai placed 10th in the 2-year-old class.

The youngest registered racer so far is 19-month-old Xarin Galindo of West Jordan, Utah. Toddlers will put their Strider Bike skills to the test during these family-friendly races. The event will also feature a free Strider Adventure Zone play area on both days for kids age 2-5. Strider Bikes and helmets will be provided.

The Wall Street Journal attended a previous Strider Cup Race and created a recap video declaring Balance Bikes: The End of Training Wheels. In the WSJ article, Welcome to the Tour de France of Toddler Racing, the writer asserts, “Training wheels have been disrupted.” ESPN shared that article on Instant Awesome: Say hello to the ‘Tour de France’ of toddler bicycle racing, adding, “Honestly, this is something you need to see to believe.”

During Strider races, hundreds of relatives cheer on racers while ringing yellow cowbells. Toddlers kick their short legs and embark upon a 600-foot plus journey which includes obstacles such as the Strider tunnel and wooden ramps. All racers are treated to a podium award ceremony, where they receive either a trophy or a medal.

The Strider Cup World Championship includes the 2 and under class and the 3-year-old class, both sponsored by LDS Hospital. Competitive Cyclist is sponsoring the 4-year-old class. The 5-year-old class is sponsored by The Color Run. The registration fee is $25 online before July 20 at 7 p.m. MST. There will be no onsite registration. Racers will receive a Strider jersey, number plate for their bike and a goodie bag valued at more than $50. Registration is at http://www.stridercupworldchampionship.com.

Strider is teaming up with The Dannon Company to give away 50 Strider Bikes and helmets to disadvantaged youth through Head Start Utah. Dannon employees will assemble the bikes and donate the bikes and helmets to Head Start representatives on July 10. Several of the bike recipients are expected to participate in the race.

The Strider Cup World Championship event also includes the Special Needs Races sponsored by Chick-fil-A for athletes of all ages and abilities. Strider donated bikes to several local organizations. These athletes will race the 12” models, as well as the 16” and 20” balance bikes.

Prior to the championship race, Strider hosted three Strider Cup races in cities around the country: May 6 in Fort Worth, TX, May 27 in Pittsburgh, PA, and June 10 in Lincoln, NE. The Strider event page, http://www.striderbikes.com/events has more information on all of the races.

Over 270 STRIDER Riders came out for the 2015 STRIDER World Championship at Main Street Square in Rapid City, SD! The 5th annual race had participants from Canada, China, Ecuador, Japan, Slovakia, and all over the US. It's always fun to see international friendships rekindled as previous champions return to reclaim their title in the next age bracket. We also had a number of racers who had participated in one of the four 2015 STRIDER Championship Series races held in Florida, California, Pennsylvania, and Utah.

The weekend was full of family focused events and everyone had a great time despite high temperatures.

Friday night was a chance to get to know the lay out of the track and for last chance qualifiers. We capped Friday night off with the STRIDER Corporate Challenge! Eight local businesses had a blast racing the track in a relay. The best part? We raised $1,000 for Youth & Family Services and $1,000 for Black Hills Works.

Saturday was RACE DAY! Some riders were fast, some were slow, but smiles were out in abundance! It was another hot one and many of the racers took advantage of the water hazard for a quick (sometimes mid-race) cool-down! Abbey Road (a Beatles cover band) played in Main Street Square at 7pm. Many of the STRIDER Riders stayed to get rid of even more energy through some pretty amazing dancing skills.

Check out the social media links at the bottom of the page to make sure you don't miss the2016  STRIDER Championship Series dates and locations when they're announced! You should also head over to our Flickr Page to see some amazing photos of all the little racers:

Finallya huge shout out to all the families and STRIDER Riders that came out!

We also had a ton of support from some amazing sponsors: FedEx, Rapid City CVB, Scull Construction, Courtesy Subaru, Honey Stinger, Black Hills & Badlands, KIND Snacks, SCheels, Western Dakota Insurors, Ketel Thorstenson, Black Hills Power, Black Hills Urgent Care, Security First Bank, and Vast Broadband.

See you next year!

Ashton was the 2012 UK STRIDER Champion and joined us for the STRIDER World Championship in Sarasota, FL. He even patented his now signature move, "The Fire Hydrant" (pictured below), during the STRIDER trick competition!

FireHydrant

The video below is a great example of STRIDER progression and balance. Did I mention that the video is shot in Sherwood Forest? If you didn't think it could get any cooler than that, watch Ashton's balance skills. This is one of the main reasons that we tell parents to hold on to their STRIDER bikes even after their children have started pedalling.

He goes through the enitre rhythm section standing on the Launchpad footrests. He also is able to balance and keep going through some slow going on top of the tabletop jumps.

Have a great Saturday...Now get outside and enjoy the day!

Happy New Year From STRIDER!

It has been another Amazing year at Strider Sports International! The 2013 STRIDER ST-3 was full of cool new improvements on an already (in our opinion) cool little bike. The STRIDER calendar contest was a huge hit! Look for them on the walls of STRIDER dealers all over the country, you can also order one for yourself HERE. Another highlight was the 2012 STRIDER World Championships. With racers ranging from 18 months to 5 years old from as far away as Japan and Slovakia, the 2nd annual racing weekend at Sarasota BMX was a huge success!

With almost 100,000 new STRIDER riders in 2012, 2013 is already shaping up to be a great year!

Happy New Years!

And Now...A Review

Every once in a while we have to toot our own horn...Today is one of those days. It's always nice to hear from parents who were reluctant to buy a STRIDER, because they often end up being the greatest proponents when they see how well they work. Were you a hesitant STRIDER buyer?

Random Photo of a Happy STRIDER Rider

"Reluctantly Purchased this STRIDER for my two year old. Reluctance was due to the price. However, after a whole summer riding it, (and I mean , he rode it everywhere) we watched him learn to balance and lift his legs. After awhile he would just give a couple push offs and glide around. We raised the seat accordingly and he never missed a beat. Then we put him on a bike slightly larger with pedals (no training wheels) and he just took off. He's a middle child and his older sister is still using training wheels.
I was recommended this bike by a friend, and now I recommend it to everybody. My son could ride a pedal bike with without training wheels before his third birthday. It's also durable. My kids leave it outside and are rough on it, and it still looks new a year later."

~Ryan (A Formerly Reluctant STRIDER Parent)

Merry Christmas From STRIDER Sports!

Merry Christmas from Strider Sports International!  Hope you are all having a happy holiday with family and friends. Don’t eat too much and don't over drive the conditions!

Luckily, we've been able to get some stealth photos from the North pole of an elf enjoying the new STRIDER Ski Attachments. These are proving to be a popular accessory for Santa's helpers during the off season!
