Happy Striderday From Poland!

Mamy nadzieję, masz wielki Striderday!

We hope that you are having a great Striderday.  Hopefully (depending on when you're reading this) you've already spent most of the day outside or you are getting all of your gear together to head outside for some fun!

We found this really fun "old school" video on YouTube that we thought would be a great way to start or end your day.  We're pretty sure that there was some digital manipulation to this, but we can't be %100 positive.

Children's Home Society Fix A Bike Day!

The Children's Home Society of South Dakota serves over 2,000 children every year from 4-13 years old.  Most of these kids are victims of abuse and neglect.  A large stable of bikes is one way that the Children's Home Society tries to give these kids a sense of normalcy.  We have donated Striders in the past, which get used when they have younger kids in residence, but the majority are already riding pedal bikes.

Strider employees were able to pay a visit to CHS and sling some wrenches; fixing brakes, derailleurs, oiling chains and tightening bolts. Hopefully this will be the first of many bike fix it days for Strider employees...keep those pedals pumping!

Custom Strider Modification

Custom Strider modifications have really taken off in Japan.  Today's blog entry is a video that one of the "Team No Pedals" parents made showing how to put on a stem and handlebar combo that will make your Strider rider feel cooler than they already do!

This can be completed at home with some relatively simple additions of a: head tube shim, an expander plug, a top cap, a stem (the shorter the better) and handlebars (not too wide!), which you should be able to pick up at your local bike shop.

This is also a great way to ensure that your child's Strider doesn't get confused with anybody else's when you're out on the town or having an impromptu Strider M.O.B. session at the local dirt park!

Strider Sports International is expanding it's social media reach!  We've recently started as a way to connect with fans, Strider Riders and parents at a deeper level.  Continue to "like us" and interact with us on Facebook, but head over to Strider Life (bookmark it) and join in the ongoing conversation there!

We received a great testimonial this last week that we thought was worth sharing.  Striders were developed to teach balance to young kids to instill a lifelong love of everything two wheeled.  Some times Striders bring balance to life as well!  I'll let the testimonial do the talking...

"I am a nature loving, adventure seeking mom and my husband is… not so much, but he does have a thrill for adrenaline. I have pushed, pulled and tugged my husband in every direction and just before giving up, I begged “the cosmos” to send me some way for us to share an active and healthy lifestyle. About a month ago I had the fortunate encounter of meeting a serious Strider family at my son’s school. A couple of weeks later, our sons were riding Strider Bikes together.

My husband now takes our boys on walks around our neighborhood or to the parks (with me or without me)! I am thrilled, a step in the right direction! Not only have these incredible little bikes opened the door for off road adventure to my little boys, but they are the missing link between a grease monkey dad and a granola crunching mom! My kids love their Strider Bikes and ride every day. My husband is finally inspired enough that he now has his own mountain bike and we’ve made some really great friends in the process!

I am so grateful for our Strider encounter on so many different levels. This is not only a great toy/tool for our children, but an investment towards a healthier lifestyle for the whole family."    ~Jen

Calling all Strider riders! If you are in or near Fresno, California or Warsaw, Indiana make sure that you get out for some Strider Cup racing action this weekend (6/25 and 6/26)!

There have been hundreds of Strider riders participate in the Strider Cup this year. As the year progresses and the Strider Cup competition heats up we hope to see see that number double in the second half!

Fresno, CA - The "All American Nationals" will be happening on the 25th and 26th (this weekend) of June in Fresno, California.  It will be the largest NBL National races in California this year and should be a great opportunity to hone their Strider racing skills as well as getting inspired by the older guys as they rip up the BMX track!

Warsaw, IN - The "Midwest Nationals" are coming to Warsaw...Indiana the 25th and 26th of June.  The BMX and Strider Cup racing action at Hire Park BMX should be epic if the highlights from last years nationals are any indication.

The weather report for both race cities is sunny and warm for the entire weekend!  Get your Strider riders pumped up and get them out for some BMX fun.

Learning Every Day

We've been getting a lot of questions lately concerning the different levels of skill for riders. When my daughter first got her Strider as an 18 month old she mostly spun the wheels with the bike laying on the ground. At the time I kept wondering if she would ever ride it.  When she did straddle the Strider most of her time was spent walking with her butt off the seat.

Nine months later I can barely believe how competent she has become.  She wants to ride ALL the time and when there are other Strider riders around she is cruising right along with them.  She's still working on balancing with her feet off the ground for extended distances, but now I know that it is the next step in her Strider progression and it will happen soon enough!

Here is a great video that comes out of Germany where the generic term for balance bike is 'laufrad'. We like this video because it shows an 18 month old Strider rider taking his first steps with his new Green Strider. Hopefully this video will give you an idea of the beginning process on a Strider.  Good luck and happy Striding!

Striderday: Back to the Basics

Today for our random Striderday post we're taking a look back at the roots of mountain biking!  Strider was started from a love of  Mountain and dirt bike riding.  The folks in the YouTube clip stripped their "klunkers" down to the bare minimum for a new style of riding.

Strider has done the same by stripping all of the excess off a bike designed for the youngest riders to get back to the basics, learn balance and to have a blast!

Strider Cup: Crested Butte

"Everyone Was Super Stoked!"

This was the official word from the Ride The Rockies crew who hosted a Strider Cup event in Crested Butte, CO.  It gave the kids an opportunity to have some two wheeled fun of their own on registration day.  40 Strider riders from 2-5 years old showed up for the main event.  The weather was great, the street was blocked off and smiles were plentiful.

The course consisted of some tight turns and obstacles that no tricycle stood a chance of getting over!  Thanks to all who put this event together and for all the parents who brought out their Strider riders to have some racing fun!

If your child(ren) have caught the racing bug and you'll be around Gunnison, CO on June 25th there will be another Strider Cup race at the Gunnison River Festival starting at 11am (6/25).

Crazy 27 Month Old

We always love hearing from happy Strider riders and their parents.  We get a lot of messages in our email, but not many catch our attention like this one from Jill.  The subject line in this particular email was "Crazy 27 month old" and it came into the "Customer Needs Help" in-box!

"We have a crazy 27 month old that has been riding your bike for about 1 month.  I thought I would send a video of him. We live in the mountains of Colorado in a Ski Resort town and this child is literally all over the side walks, trails and dirt paths. Please let us know if we should be doing something to stop him. He goes on curbs and off. He isn't even potty trained and is riding this bike up trails that I'm scared to go down. We love the bike and "Zabel" is getting a lot of attention on it."  - Jill (Zabel's Mom)

Make sure to keep his helmet on!  It looks like in a few years when he's on a pedal bike you won't have any chance of keeping up with him on the street or mountain bike trails!

Striding Around Tokyo

Strider Cup is the brain child of our Japanese distributors and Striders have really taken off in Japan as a result.  Every day we get videos and YouTube links sent with huge crowds of children riding their Striders.  When we stumbled on the YouTube video below we couldn't help but smile at the change of pace.

The two year old is taking a leisurely Stride through the city streets.  The music is infectious, He's got a great smile and after only two months on his green Strider he is getting more adventurous!
