Closed-Toe KEEN Sandals Are Perfect for Summer Riding

Rapid City, SD (May 19, 2015) — Strider Sports Intl., Inc., the world’s premier manufacturer and marketer of children’s STRIDER® no-pedal balance bikes, is pleased to announce that KEEN -  the leading manufacturer of original hybrid footwear -  has teamed up with Strider Sports to produce a Special make-up Strider KEEN sandal. The all-new Strider KEEN Sandals for kids aged 2-5 are available for purchase on the E-commerce store and at Strider Championship Events. The sleek, black-and-yellow sandals come in sizes 8-13 for toddlers and retail for $55.

The new Special make-up Strider KEEN sandals are a sturdy and safe sandal option for active kids who like to ride all day. This low-profile “Seacamp” style KEEN sandal allows little feet increased flexibility and freedom while protecting piggies during quick stops. With a grippy rubber sole that won’t mark up the floor and KEEN's Secure Fit Lace Capture System, this shoe offers tough protection for indoor and outdoor riding adventures and Strider races. Parents will appreciate the rugged design of this closed-toe sandal that will surely save on multiple shoe purchases as young riders use their toes to brake, turn, and stop while riding their STRIDER Bike.

“The Strider KEEN sandals are the perfect shoes for active toddler riders,” said Ryan McFarland, CEO of Strider Sports International. “Parents have been asking us to offer closed toe sandals for a long time. Any parent who has a STRIDER Rider knows that KEEN’s are an essential piece of gear for little riders.”

The Strider KEEN sandals are available through the Strider website and onsite at national racing events, including the upcoming Strider Championship Races to be held in Pittsburgh June 6 and Salt Lake City August 8. MSRP $55. To learn more about the sandals and/or to purchase, visit

Wednesday, May 6th- The City of Rapid City, hosted by the Parks and Recreation Department, Presented Strider’s own Marty Martinez for the Commuter of the Year Award. In honor of National Bike Month the city holds an annual Bike to School Competition. Despite the rainy conditions, 76 students participated in the event.

The Parks Department notified Kent Jacobs, Strider US Sales Manager in advance of his award, and they must know how we love a great surprise!

Marty said “I get this text from Ryan [Strider founder, chief enthusiast and CEO] saying he needs some help picking out a bike for Kristi [Ryan’s wife] at Black Hills Bikes.  He said it would give us a chance to “talk“so I was kinda sweating bullets you know?! Boss needs help picking out a bike and wants to “talk”.  So we get in the truck and head on down toward the bike shop, we get in the turn lane to go into Founder Park. Still no clue of about what’s to go down.  When we get out I notice the Strider van as we are walking I see Charlie [Strider QC] and start wondering what kind of event does he have planned? Then I see my Wife Julie with my youngest daughter, that’s when Ryan said that I had won the Commuter of the Year Award, I’m still not buying into it, but then more and more people start to show and well, the rest is in the books.”

Based upon his Strava statistics, he is averaging 65 miles per week and has logged nearly 1,000 miles since January 1.  He averages about 20 days of biking to work each month, “not counting the fun rides in the forest with friends.” Marty says he isn’t training for anything right now, (although he has been known to kick butt in a race or two) but has the Xterra Aspen Valley and Xterra Buffalo on his radar.

He said one main reason he started commuting is because he made a deal with his daughter that if she got a job he would let her buy his Subaru. Of course she took him up on his offer…

Since his award last week, we received an email from Ryan letting the Strider Headquarters Staff know that Marty will be moving away from Striderville at the end of this month.  Marty’s wife Julie had an amazing opportunity to take a new job in Boulder Colorado, and with their family’s love for the outdoors and skiing, Colorado seems like the perfect place for them.  Thankfully though, we are excited to say that Marty will continue to represent the Strider Brand as an account executive from his new home in the Rocky Mountains.

Best of luck, Marty, on your new adventures. Stride On!

Set up for the 2015 Lakewood Ranch Strider Championship Race (sponsored by started in the early pre-dawn hours Saturday, April 25th! Bright orange cones and freshly built ramps were dropped in place in preparation for the 9 am start of the two year old race class. 2 and 3 year old STRIDER riders outfitted with full riding gear, GoPro cameras, and customized STRIDER Bikes started rolling in about half hour before race time. Good thing they arrived early and fresh. The weather was not kind to the little ones.

By mid morning and the start of the largest race class – the 3 year olds – the temperature was already over 82 degrees and the humidity just as high. That didn’t phase the young STRIDER riders – mostly boys, who made several practice laps around the 900’ course complete with ramps, tire obstacles and tight corners. Nor did it stop the group of over 25 riders with special needs – some who travelled from over an hour away to race against one another.

It was a beautiful day filled with colorful STRIDER Bike riding, huge smiles, lots of cheers, sweaty heads, personal pride, big shiny trophies, a few minor crashes and likely finished with a solid night’s sleep!

Results are listed below. Unfortunately some of the paperwork was lost so if you don't see your little 2 year old please give us a call so we can update the results. Share your great photos from Lakewood Ranch with us on Facebook, Twitter, or Instagram! Check out all of the great photos we have over on our Flickr Account HERE!

Happy STRIDERday: Aaaaaaaaahhhhhhhh

Hope everyone is having a great Saturday! It snowed in STRIDERville yesterday and 70 degrees is forecast for today!

Sometimes we run across a video that shows perfectly the fun and joy that can be found on a STRIDER. This video of Nathan is one of those.

Watch his face, and listen to the excitement in his voice as he cruises down some hills on his KTM STRIDER with Dad.
