Balance Bike Toddler Athletes Compete in Rapid City, SD
Family Fun Day Activities for All Bike Enthusiast Families
Rapid City, S. D. June 17, 2013 –These days, even preschoolers can be national race champions. On Saturday July 13, Strider Sports Intl., Inc., is throwing down the gauntlet to all fun loving toddlers and their bike enthusiast families by hosting the first ever STRIDER U.S. Championship balance bike race!
This national event will see STRIDER’s famous no-pedal bike race course take over Rapid City’s Main Street Square as toddlers face off at the start line to show their skills on two wheels. The young athletes will get the chance to showcase their ability to balance, handle their STRIDER No- Pedal balance bikes, and compete like real cyclists on the custom designed racecourse.
The event also includes fun activities for the entire family with the racing action starting at 10:00am for two years and under. Three year olds compete at 11:00am, with four year olds at 1:00pm and five year olds closing down the racing at 2:00pm in the afternoon. The U.S. Championship is a qualifying event for the 3rd Annual STRIDER World Championshiptaking place in Sarasota, FL October 11-13, 2013.
“There’s absolutely nothing more amazing than watching toddlers lined up on their STRIDER bikes like they’re in the Olympics racing for gold,” says Strider Founder and CEO, Ryan McFarland. “And the race course itself is going to be incredibly fun, combining all of the best parts of what we’ve learned from holding STRIDER races around the world. The U.S. Championship event is just one part of our global movement to bring early childhood riding skills to young children everywhere” , says McFarland.
The top 8 finishers will get trophies in a true podium ceremony, and all participants will receive a medal. Each registered STRIDER rider will also receive a Strider backpack and a Strider race jersey. Online registration is open until Friday, July 9 at 12:00 p.m. (MST) and costs $15 per rider. Same day registration will begin at 9 am. Parents should register racers at least 30 minutes prior to race start time.
Located in the Black Hills of South Dakota and just 30 minutes from the Mt. Rushmore National Monument, the STRIDER US Championship also makes a great stop for any family on their summer vacation.

There were 2 racks of STRIDER bikes in Utah last weekend for a total of 10 riders, including a 2 year old and a 4 year old, all the rest were 3 years old. One moto having close finishes for the top 3 all three laps , the course was through the 3rd straight and around the 3rd corner at Rad Canyon BMX all the kids had a great time and were excited to receive their trophies. One of my favorite things about working Strider is the certain random things that give me warm fuzzies every single day. You know, that happy feeling you get when something makes your heart melt or you have a sense of pride so sudden that your body literally feels like its warming up and your guts are all gushie inside. (In a good way of course.) Maybe I’m over sensitive, I have heard that once or twice, a happy crier. It’s so annoying and embarrassing but I can’t help it. I have to bring an entire box of Kleenex to weddings and baptisms to sop up what I like to call my emotional allergies.
Let me share with you some things that make me fuzzy, and make me cry, (occasionally) and it’s all because of the amazing place I work. I am so lucky.
We are still a very new company, relatively speaking, but rapidly growing and expanding our team. On every job description the very last sentence is this: “Beneficial qualifications: Commitment to an active lifestyle and exercise.” This probably doesn’t give everyone warm fuzzies. But it means the world to me. It doesn’t say ‘You must be able to run a mile in 10 minutes or be able to perform 5 perfect pushups before being considered for this position.’ It says a commitment to be active; and this is contagious! The support we give each other to be healthy is incredible. Walks, rides, simply caring about the well being of one another makes me fuzzy. And I like it.
Trophy over the head pictures. OH. MY. GOSH. I giggle and get a little teary eyed every single time I see one of these. These toddlers are so tiny! And they are active, and their parents are rad. They are well on their way to having an active lifestyle forever because it’s fun, and they are so proud, and they started early. Plus their little arms are so short still and they just barely reach to the tops of their little heads and it’s ADORABLE. That too.
Grandmas. I answer the phone here a lot and even when I am crazy busy and have 5 million things to do I will never rush a Grandma telling me about how awesome her grandchild is. Because I know she’s right, that kid is awesome, and I want to hear all about it.
I could make this list a mile long, but I won’t. I want to hear all about your Strider warm fuzzies. Leave a comment! I won’t be mad if you make me cry today. It’s just emotional allergies.
